General Claudio Graziano, a former Italian Army officer who served as Chairman of the European Union Military Committee and Commander of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), was found dead on Monday. He was 70 years old.

The circumstances surrounding Graziano's death are still under investigation. However, Italian media outlets are reporting that he was found in his home in Rome.

Graziano had a distinguished military career, serving in various positions of leadership within the Italian Army and NATO. He was appointed UNIFIL Head of Mission and Force Commander in January 2007, leading the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon until 2010.

From 2015 to 2018, Graziano served as Chief of Staff of the Italian Defense and was later appointed Chairman of the European Union Military Committee in 2018.
